Costs & Savings
Is Water Out expensive?
Can it reduce costs & downtime?
Yes. On appropriate major domestic and commercial water losses
Water Out hire costs can result in substantial savings on
the claim potential.
Overall, savings can be expected from the consequential losses
that one could expect from such things as relocating and alternative
accommodation, business interruption, mitigating secondary
damage and lowered re-building or re-decorating costs. Often
there is no need to strip out flooded property, often the
case with other methods.
Another good example is the cost of running a drying program.
In a large loss, using a number of portable dehumidifiers
and air movers, there is not only is the down time, there
is also the running costs of these units to consider. Water
Out can do the work of more than 50 of the largest portable
units, which require substantial power for running them. Water
Out works on one 13 amp power socket or a small generator
we can provide. Portable units efficiency is notoriously affected
by weather and temperature conditions. Water Out provides
consistent and significant water removal capability no matter
what the weather.
Can the occupiers of the building continue to work with those
50 dehumidifiers and air movers running? Of course not. If
required Water Out can work without the use of supplementary
air movement and this means that we can adjust the temperature
so that occupiers can continue to work. (This will, however,
slow down the drying rate).
Have we any examples of significant costs savings?
Yes, and too many to list here, but let us tell you about
three properties in Essex which were flooded to a depth of
around one metre when a river burst its banks. All these properties
were listed, historic properties each with predicted weekly
loss of profits of around £9000.
Property 1
Instruction to deploy Water Out was given at the time of flooding
and whilst the water was still immersing the ground floor
bards, restaurants, offices and wc's. Once the water had subsided
and our sanitising division, Action Dry, had finished the
clean up (approx 6 hours), Water Out was turned on. Within
24 hours the carpets, historic timbers and upholstery were
bone dry. Within a few more days the structure was dry. Once
the business owner had replaced damaged equipment and obtained
clearance from the Environmental Health, the business reopened
for trading.
All this took less than two weeks.
Any redecorating or replacements agreed by the Loss Adjuster
were carried out in stages at the owner's leisure.
Property 2
Having seen what Water Out could do at the first property,
the owner requested Water Out be used to dry his property.
Unfortunately he had already removed his carpets and furniture.
Water Out dried the property in
5 days. It took another three weeks for the property
owner to refurbish and redecorate.
Property 3
On the instruction of the adjuster, builder and surveyor,
against our advice, it
was decided that traditional drying methods be used to dry
out this property. This also entailed stripping out anything
that could be stripped out, we were told, to speed to drying
process. Carpets, timbers, wood, flooring, furniture and plaster
on the walls to a height of one metre were removed. On completion
of this dehumidifiers and air movers, some 30 machines, were
turned on. (Imagine the power consumption). 12 weeks later
the property was dry. 23 weeks after that, when all the refurbishment
had been completed the business reopened.
